Our love affair with Nilüfer Yanya began with a few sporadic demos on her SoundCloud page. Newest single ‘Tears’ takes us back to the rough cut of ‘Monsters’ - one of the young Londoner’s very first songs - thanks to its intimate lo-fi aesthetic and unpolished feel. And why would you take measures to blur the unique texture on Yanya’s voice, which is so distinct and expressive? Over an art-jazz plateau of brushed percussion, strummed guitar, patterned bass and bold synth keys, Nilüfer Yanya sings “All I really want is / Somebody to stop / Somebody to hold me back.” It’s a catchy and kitsch cry-a-long addition to the musician’s forthcoming debut album.
